The sale of Plymouth-based thin-film coating company Artemis Optical has won the ‘Small Deal of the Year (Sub £10m)’ category at South West Insider’s Annual Dealmakers Awards.

Shaw & Co, led by Director Myles Hamilton, advised on the £8.9m sale of the business to Gooch & Housego (G&H), a specialist manufacturer of optical components and systems.

The acquisition enhanced G&H's product portfolio, creating new opportunities for vertical integration and the cross-selling of the companies’ combined capabilities. In turn, Artemis was able to access new customers and territories for its offering by utilising G&H’s resources, expertise and global reach.

Stephens Scown and Burges Salmon also played integral roles on the deal.

The annual awards celebrate the standout deals in the region over the past 12 months, recognising and rewarding the wealth of talent across its corporate finance and dealmaking community.

Shaw & Co was also shortlisted in the ‘Corporate Finance Advisory Team of the Year’ category while Jim Shaw, the company’s CEO & Founder, was shortlisted for the ‘Dealmaker of the Year’ award.
